Last Sunday I was lucky enough to spend the afternoon in Pittsburgh with one of my favorite punk rock chicks, Laura. She was in town for a 3 day music bender which included Rancid at The Lots, The Descendents at the Roxian, and H2O at the Rex. Even though it was a 2 hour drive for me, I could not pass up the opportunity to hang out with this girl when she was so much closer than her typical New York state.

I met up with her and her husband, Jay, at the Quality Inn and we kicked it for a bit before heading to the South Side for lunch and drinks at Fatheads. We gossiped, caught each other up on our lives, and reminisced about our glory days at Camp Anarchy. My Italian sandwich was good, my Bumbleberry beer was better, but my company was the best.

After our meal, we weren’t ready to part ways yet so we walked down Carson Street until we came across Dave’s Music Mine. Once inside, we were mainly greeted with rows of used CDs, but in the center of the store there were bins full of glorious vinyl. Some of it was used and was priced at a discount according to the artist and the album and some were new at full price.

Again – while laughing, because we’re both hilarious – we spent the better part of the next hour, digging through bins and making fun of each other. Once every album cover had been checked and double checked, I took my newfound treasures and spent a whole $37 on 4 records. I walked away with Bessie Smith, David Johansen, MC5, and a local Pittsburgh band called the Faves. I haven’t checked that one out yet, but I will be reviewing it in the near future.

We all climbed back into my super cool mini van and made out way back to their hotel. Still unwilling say goodbye, I followed them back up to the room and we chilled for a bit longer before finally leaving. Over all, I had the very best day. I wish I would have went to see the Descendents with the rest of my crew, but this punk rock mama had to get home to get the next generation of hell-raisers ready for school the next day.

Thanks so much for making me feel special and carving a chunk out of your anniversary weekend to kick it with me!! You guys are truly top notch human beings and I’m so fortunate to call you my family. ~XOXO~
