Last month I headed to my local dive and caught a $5 show from some PA locals with the intent to check out a new band in my radar, Suburban Downgrade. They are a fairly recent addition to the music scene and are from the Lock Heaven and Jersey Shore area of Punksylvania. They described their sound to me as a mix of everything from ska to street punk to hardcore. Mainly, they said that they were “Fast, Loud, Aggressive, and Simple.”

Zach is on guitar and is the self described “yeller” of the group. He did not steer me wrong in that assessment. His influences, such as Choking Victim and Public Serpents, ring clear in his delivery.

Bassist, Andrew, brings some Slackers-esque vibes to the trio. He concentrates hard on his delivery on stage and throws in some European crust flavor here and there.

Tying it all together is Craig on drums. His love of all music is fully represented in his craft. He said that if it’s music, he listens to it. I don’t doubt that for a second.

What I love about these guys the most is their passion. Not only for creating and performing their own music, but for the entire scene as a whole. When I asked them what they were currently listening to, they answered with all of the bands that they play with. Their music is recorded in an attic, mixed and burned on a laptop, and titled in a sharpie. To that – we say fuck yes.

Check these guys out and follow them on Facebook!!
