Whoever said punk rock is dead better listen again. Fresh out of Philadelphia, Stolen Wheelchairs are a teenage fronted punk band here to keep the scene alive. There’s a catch though…before Stolen Wheelchairs became a band, Stolen Wheelchairs was just Osc4r Capps.
In 2018, 16 year old Osc4r wrote and performed each instrument on “Out of Steps,” Stolen Wheelchairs’ first EP. He then went on to mix and master all five tracks on his own. Signed to State Line Records, Stolen Wheelchairs is now a full band consisting of Ocs4r on lead vocals, Oscar on guitar, Lou on bass, and Milo on drums.
Delivering a high energy, anthemic sound, Stolen Wheelchairs are in a league of their own, pulling influence from The Unseen, Gorilla Biscuits and The Casualties just to name a few. Personally, I am a huge hardcore fan, so I really dig how in-your-face this band is. Their first EP is promising, loaded with explosive intros, catchy choruses, and killer breakdowns. “Out of Steps” easily left me wanting more. It’s loud, it’s fast, it’s punk rock.
On September 11, 2020, Stolen Wheelchairs released “The America,” a single off their first full length album coming out this November. It’s no surprise that “The America” bursts into beast-mode right off the bat. With a hardcore tone set from the start, this track rolls right into raw lyrics about being played by our government. I found myself screaming along to the catchy chorus and “whoas” and can’t wait to see this song performed live someday. Throw me right in the pit!
“On My Own” is the latest track from Stolen Wheelchairs. The song explodes with a massive scream & tons of speed. Can I just say that Osc4r’s angsty voice was made for these screams?! There’s a breakdown in the middle of the song with a chunky bass line followed by a nice guitar solo. My favorite part of hardcore music is how the band comes back after the breakdowns. Stolen Wheelchairs nail them on every track, this being my favorite so far. Again, and I cannot stress this enough…throw me right in the pit!
If you like your punk rock fast, loud, raw, and fun, Stolen Wheelchairs should absolutely be on your radar. You can catch full sets on the band’s YouTube channel filmed in their home studio, The Jewel Box. Be sure to follow the band on Facebook & Instagram for all updates. Stolen Wheelchairs’ full length The America drops November 13th on State Line Records and is currently available for preorder.
